Cleaning & Care

How to Clean a Hello Menstrual Disc at Home

Before first use

You will need to sterilise your menstrual disc before you use it for the first time.

Cleaning your menstrual disc during your period

After removal, empty the contents into the toilet and rinse with cold water. This helps to prevent stains from setting in.

Then, clean the menstrual disc with a small blob of menstrual cup wash, rinse, pat dry and reinsert. Alternatively, you can also use a mild soap. Ensure the disc is thoroughly rinsed to remove any soap residue before reinsertion.

For extra protection, spray it with Hello Go before allowing this to dry and then reinserting. A single application of Hello Go every 24 hours forms an invisible shield to bacteria that is bound to the surface and doesn't leach into the vagina.

How to Clean a Menstrual Disc in Public

If there is no sink or tap around, for example if you are in a cubicle, it is totally fine to wipe it out with toilet paper and then reinsert your disc. Then, when you do have a tap, follow the steps above.

Sterilising Your Menstrual Disc at The End of Your Period

You will need to sterilise your Hello Disc at the end of your period before using it again the next cycle. To do this, wash with a menstrual cup wash such as Hello Wash or a mild soap and then sterilise it before storing it in the pouch provided.

How long to boil a menstrual disc? To sterilise, place your menstrual disc in a full pot of water and boil for at least 3 minutes. Use a timer to ensure it doesn't boil dry.

You can also soak your menstrual disc for 15 minutes in a glass of cold water containing 1/4 sterilising tablet (Milton is the most common brand available in most Australasian supermarkets and pharmacies). Do not leave it soaking for longer than 15 minutes as this may cause damage.

Ensure your Hello Disc is fully dry before storing it away. Store it in a dry place out of direct sunlight.

Detailed cleaning instructions and a user guide are included in the packaging.
